Scotland and the Jacobites: Prince Charlie and the '45

In August 1745, Prince Charles Edward Stuart landed on the west coast of Scotland with fewer than 10 men. His plan was to march on London, defeat the thousands of Hanovarian troops arrayed against him and seize the British throne. What makes the story of the Jacobite rising of 1745 so compelling is that he almost succeeded. One of my favorite trips, Scotland and the 45 follows the path “Bonnie Prince Charlie,” took from his landing at Glennfinnan to his final defeat at Culloden Moore. What’s not to love-bagpipes, whisky and some of the most gorgeous scenery on earth!
