The GI’s Great Trial: Ardennes and the Battle of the Bulge

The darkened skies over the snow covered fields of the Ardennes burst into light on the morning of December 16, 1944. It was the start of Operation Wacht Am Rhine; the final great German offensive in the West. Over the years I’ve travelled to the Ardennes with many veterans of what would be remembered as the Battle of the Bulge and they all say it was amongst their toughest battles.
